La Plata County Compass: From Vision to Action

After completing the one-page strategic plan for the county, it was time to make sure that the document didn't just sit on the shelf. We needed to find a way for us to infuse it into each and every aspect of our day to day work for the people of La Plata County. We did just that through a process called "Managing for Accountability and Results." 

Each department has finished a work product that matched up the goals of the strategic plan and then used the work of each department to filter its targeted outcomes pertaining to the overall plan for the county for next year. Their individual department plans should be released in the next few weeks.

Another big project for the county relating directly to the Strategic Plan is the Comprehensive Plan Process. 

The Fire Code Adoption and Review Commission has been meeting in order to make a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the 2006 International Fire Code. I am anxiously awaiting their recommendation and look forward to hearing the views of the community regarding this important step in increasing safety as we manage both growth and good policy. The Durango Herald had this to say about the process.
